I would like to bring my project under attention. Together with researchers in 13 countries, we have set up a network to follow up the status of the stag beetle all over Europe. In many regions in Europe, the typical habitat of this species is in decline due to intensification of land management. Luckily, there are other placed were the species is still doing well and can rely on sufficient dead wood. To have a more scientific view on the evolution of this species, we developed a monitoring system (standardized counting method). Consequently, we are looking for volunteers all over Europe to step in our citizen science project. So If you know a stag beetle population near your residence and you are whiling to count the stag beetles at least 6 times a year in June and July, then you can join our project. It is very easy and it takes you only 6 evening walks. Visit www.stagbeetlemonitoring.org for more info. On this website you can also register and upload your results.
